MARRIED MAN SUFFOCATE^": STRUCK BY FALL OF CLAY, t ALL WORK SUSPENDED. [bt TELEGBjLFH.—PSESS association-.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday. A miner, Robert William Smith, mar. ried, aged 53 years, residing a Brighton" and employed at the coal mine there, was working to-day when a slab of clay from the roof struck him down against the hard coal, causing a deep gash on the left temple. He was apparently suffocated while unconscious. The inquest was adjourned. The mine is closed down meanwhile About a dozen men have been employe*' since tie mine was opened early this vear Deceased came from Canada five yeai« ago and went to Brighton in February He was an experienced miner.
