STATE DOCKYARD FAILURE.
ROYAL COMMISSION'S REPORT
UNPROFITABLE EXPENDITURE A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Aug. 11.
The report of the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the working of the Government dockyard at Walsh Island is strongly condemnatory. It states that capital was expended unprofitably in equipping the establishment. The cost of work compared with that done elsewhere was excessive. Neither Ithe estimates of cost of work nor the charges provided for depreciation or interest on capital. Since its inception fthe establishment had been a distinctly unproductive venture. The report recommends reduction to suitable dimensions to meet service needs by selling the establishment as a whole, and erecting smaller works, or by the sale of a gestiott fit .the works., 1' . I
