INLAND FISHERIES
MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON. I IMPROVEMENT IN TROUT. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA. Saturday. This season the Rotorua fish hatchery despatched 180,000 rainbow trout ova to Masterton, 100,000' to Lake Waikaremoaua, besides 150,000 to go on Monday or Tuesday. Other orders to be fulfilled are : — Sydney, 300,000; Wellington, 200,000; Hawke's Bay, 100,000; Whangarei, 250,000; DaTgaville, 100,000. Orders have also been received for 800,000 fry. The bad state of the Wairoa Road and railway curtailment are interfering greatly with the transportation of* ova and fry. Mr. F. Moorhouse, curator of inland fisheries, states that last season was most successful in regard to the sale of fresh and smoked fish. The condition of the fish has so much improved that it would be unnecessary to erect barriers in streams for thinning out weak specimens. Two 121b trout had been caught in the Utuhina Stream on the last day of the season. Mr. Moorhouse anticipates that next season wi]l be even better than this.
