TRAINING OF CADETS.
AIMS OF NEW SYSTEM. MAKING GOOD CITIZENS. COMMENCEMENT NEXT WEEK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, Friday. Tho syllabus of the new system of cadet training announced by the . Minister fur Defence. Sir James A.'leu, some months ago, and which comes into force throughout the Dominion next week, is now pub. fished. " it is recognised," states the syllabus, " that no movement that possesses purely military motives is likely to be a success in the Dominion, since it is exactly this military domination that we have been. fighting against in Germany. Th? purpose, therefore, of this cadet, system i= to produce good citizens primarily, rather than good soldiers. . But there are two sides to good citizenship,- of which on* certainly is the preparation and capauiy to defend the Dominion I y force of arms should the need arise. Citizenship, not militarism, is, therefore, the real aim of the cadet force."' Under the scheme all cadets are to attend 34 evening drills during each >.i their four yeans' service. At these drills thev will receive instruction in phys'.>l training, musketry, infantry drill, and. in, addition, will be" given lecturettes on * variety of subjects relating to good citizenship. Physical training e:.ercises wilj h« the same "as those which produced such good results in the Expeditionary Force training camps. A special feature will he the introduction of popular games which will keep the. cadets moving and at the same time highly amused, benefiting them, both mentally and physically.
