A proclamation has been issued at tho instance of the Minister for Public Health declaring Australia to be an infected area under the terms of the Public Health Act. Mr. Russell states that latest adviccs from his health officers indicate that there are not so many serious cases in New Zealand as there were a little while ago, but ho was not prepared to say that this indicated a general improvement. A large number of commercial travellers who wish to come to New Zealand are delayed in Melbourne, but the Minister sayi that the present position in Australia prohibits any relaxation of the conditions, and the present embargo on passenger traffic must be maintained.
