RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
AUCKLAND LEAGUE ACTIVITIES.
The council of the Auckland Railways League met on Thursday. Mr, P. E. Chcal presided.
It was agreed that the chairman should continue his tour to Gisborne, Napier, Stratford, New Plymouth, Hawera and Taumarunui in connection with railway construction matters. The chairman said it would be of inestimable advantage for Napier to bo connected with Wairoa and Gisborno, thus providing another Main Trunk line system from Wellington, via Napier, East Coast, to the North Capo, via Auckland.
It was decided that Parliamentary candidates at the next election should bo asked if they would use their best endeavours to secure the appointment of a North Auckland member, preferably an Auckland man, as tho next Minister for Public Works.
It was reported that 30 men were employed on construction work at the Oakleljjh gap.
