A cable dealing with tho recent poll in Chicago has been received by the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Council from Mr. Hugh Fox, secretary of tho Trade Association in the United States, as follows:—" While the Chicago election was technically on local option, it was made a tost of the people's sentiment on national prohibition. Vote against 391,261 (73.1 per cent.. Vote for .. 144,032 (26.9 per cent.) 247,229 " This shows an overwhelming protest against national prohibition, and tho result is deemed very significant throughout the United States."
