ACCLIMATISATION MATTERS.
DECISION OF THE COUNCIL. The council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society met last evening, the chairman, Mr. C. A. Whitney, presiding. The chairman said he understood that it was to be an open season for the Auckland district. Tho secretary stated that 16 brace of Pheasants had been supplied to the 'ourist Department at Rotorua. The Wellington Society wrote that it proposed to introduce fallow deer into its district, and asked whether Auckland could supply any. It was decided to make .inquiries "at Motutapu for ono buck and two does. Tho Tourist Department wroto offering about 12 red deor calves to the society. The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was resolved to forward the deer to the sub-society at Te Kuiti. An inquiry was received from Christchurch as to whether a few pairs of brown ducks could bo captured in the Auckland district for the purpose of being placed on the River Avon, and various ponds in that city. Mr. J. E. Elliott said the birds were prevalent in tho back-waters of Hokianga and in other districts. It was decided to instruct 6ub-societie« i to report on the likelihood of obtaining the ducks.
