EAST COAST RAILWAY.
EXPEDITION ADVOCATED, OPINION IN TANEATUA. East Coast Railway matters were discussed at a public meeting held at Taneatua on Monday, there being an attendance of about 100. A resolution was carried urging that the work of construction of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway line from Auckland, via Pokeno, to Gisborne, be pushod on with the utmost possible speed, the lino being one of Dominion importance; that, in order to make it payable as quickly as possible, the Government push the construction southward from Matata, and that 'the formation be started in a number of places between Matata and Taneatua: _ that the bridges on that section be put in hand at once, otherwise the completion will be unduly delayed. The meeting also expressed appreciation of the efforts of the Auckland Railways Leasrue in its constant aeitation for greater progress in public works, railways and roads from the \ T orth Cape to Gieborme, and of the New Zealand Herat's continuous advocacy of settlement and economic transit.
