SOLDIERS REBUKED.

GARDEN PARTY EPISODE. COLONEL WYLIE'S REGRET (by telegraph.—press association.] CHRIBTCHURCH, Friday. In connection with the attitude taken up by many of the soldier patients at the Christchurch Hospital in refusing to attend in their blue uniforms the garden party arranged by the Governor-General and Lady Liverpool, the following order has been issued by Lieutenant-Colonel Wylie, officer commanding the men undergoing treatment:—" The officer commanding regrets that certain of the patients of the hospital saw fit on Tuesday, 11th inst., to so far forget themselves as soldiers and men as to behave in a manner which can only be described as discourteous in the extreme, and wishes to point out that grievances, real or imaginary, can never be rectified by behaviour such as they wero guilty of. Conduct of this kind not only reflects on them, but on their comrades, as well as the hospital in which they are, and renders the acceptance of invitations on their behalf in the future difficult if not impossible." A further order regarding local leave states— and after the 14th Inst, the hour at which patients must return to the hospital is altered from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m. .Later leave from this will only be granted on special application and for special reasons."
