TROUBLE AT MEAT WORE
PETONE MEN STRIKE.
PAYMENT FOR LOST TIME.

WELLINGTON, Monday
The men at the Gear Works, Petone, state that they went on duty at four o'clock this morning to load carcases for a Home boat. They finished at 6 a.m., and were sent home to breakfast to return at eight o'clock. The men '6 grievance at this arrangement is the loss of an hour's work between 6 s-m. and 7 a-m. On returning at eight o'clock they requested from tie foreman payment for the lost hour. The foreman referred them to the manager, who was interviwed at ten o'clock, and stated that tho men's grievance was a just one, and ordered payment for tie lost hour. The men then requested payment for the two hours lost by waiting, for the interview with the manager. On this being refused they left the worts.
