WELLINGTON. Thursday.
•the object of the Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Bill, circulated today, is to prevent the Meat Trust establishing itself in New Zealand. Under this measure it will be an offence to carry on the business of moat exporter unless authorised by a meat export license issued by the Minister for Agriculture, who is given absolute discretion to grant or refuse any application. The license is to j.be for one year, but may be revoked by tho Minister at any time if the licenseo commits, a breach of the terms of bis license, or if ho carries on business in a : manner contrary to the public interest. The penalty for carrying on the business of a meat exporter illegally is fixed at £500, with £100 additional for every day during which the business is continued' after service of ( a notice requiring . the business to be discontinued.
