TRAMWAYMEN'S DEMANDS.
CONFERENCE AT DUNEDIN.
[bt telegraph.— association.]
DUNEDIN, Wednesday.
A conference was held to-day between representatives of the Dunedin tramway proprietaries and the Tramways Union, reconsider the men's claims for increased wages and conditions of employment. At a preliminary meeting regarding the question of representatives the president of the union made a statement after the union representatives had retired. Those present then carried a motion to the effect that as the president of the' union had stated that the demands were of a revolutionary nature, and that, in his opinion, the inevitable result would be to invoke the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, further action must rest with the union Apparently if the union wishes to take further action it must apply to the Minister for Labour, who has power to appoint a commission, consisting of three representatives from each side, with an impartial chairman to consider the matter. § INCREASED WAGES SOUGHT. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The Christchurch tramway employees unanimously resolved to request from the I runways Board increases in pay equal to those recently conceded by the Wellington City Council. The men's decision has been communicated to the board with a request for a reply in time'for consideraturn at a further meeting of the union to be held on Saturday. The board, however, is unlikely to deal with the matter before its regular raeoting on Monday
