MEASURING OF WIND FORCE.
AN UP-TO-DATE INSTRUMENT. A now anemometer, capable of recording the variation of wind force from hoar to hour, is to be added to the meteorological equipment at the Albert Park Observatory. Sorao months ago the Herald drew attention to obvious deficioncy in the equipment at : bert Park, pointing out that the anemometer at present in use is of a simple type measuring only the aggregate wind velocity between observations. In view of the increasing need for more exact observation of the city a meteorological conditions, which have an important relation to commerce, agriculture, health, and many other interests the-Government waa urged to compete the equipment of the,official obaervaCopiea of the Herald containing fee remarks were Bent to Wellington V the official observer, Mr - P. A - Burnett, and he has now received intimation from Mr. D. 0. Bates, Dominion Meteorological director, that a modern anemometer is to be installed at Auckland. The instrument will require special housing, and the City Council will probably be approached for permission to erect a suitable building inside the enclosure at Albert Park. The only other instrument in the Dominion of th kin J to be installed here is at the wireless station on the Tinakori Hula, Wellington.
