TO ORCHARDISTS.
PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION. COMBINATION ORCHARD CULTI- . VATOR {Holland's Patent), which discs, hoes, and cultivates, etc,, and. . which is a wonder for short turning and ' • control, will bo publicly demonstrated at , Huapai and Te Kauwhata Experimental i Station at a very early date. This liimo it is a New Zealand firm i which has laid itself out to cater for the i needs of-orcliardists, and, after a long series of experiments, the firm of Messrs. Booth, Macdonald, and Co., Ltd., have evolved a combination orchard cultivator (Holland's Patent), which represents a radical departure from the beaten track. Thero is no rorecairiage or pole, but in--1 stead a long rearward extension of the frame to which steering wheels are fitted. This arrangement allows of the horses or tractor being attached very close to the working parts. The roar wheels are automatically controlled from the draught shackle, and act like a rudder. The working parts may be extended to 12ft wide, and it is claimed that their height in work is confined to about 12in, t-lie frame being on a level with the centre of the discs. The driver is seated well behind his work, immediately over the steering, wheels, so that he can watch his work. The cultivator was first fitted with four disc harrows each side, which can be used for in-cutting or out-cutting, by altering the discs. It was demonstrated that it. could be worked right up to the . back of the trees without ' danger of sudden inclination to right or left, alto the short hitch, combined with the automatic steering, enables the implement to . be turned in a remarkably short space.
