The French and British, up to last night, had taken 35,000 prisoners, including several thousand officers, while the captured guns exceed 500. ' . LONDON Aug:. 1! | The Canadians and Australians to-day captured Chaulntu, uu important railway junction, nine miles south-west of Peronne. The Allies have taken 36,000 prisoners and 500 guns since the offensive began. Mr. Lloyd George, speaking at Newport, said that the alli.ed victories on the Marne and Somme had resulted in the capture of nearly 60,000 prisoners and 900 guns.
