RECORD WORK WITH MACHINE-GUNS ON INFANTRY. ✓

GIANT GERMAN BOMBING MACHINE BROUGHT DOWN.

Australian and N.Z. and Renter, (Rood. 7-40 p.m.)

LONDON, Aug. 11.

■ Sir Douglas Haig's aviation report states: During intense air fighting on Saturday we destroyed 41 eriemy machines and drove down 20 out of control. Twelve of ours are missing. We dropped 23$ tons ; of bombs by day and 31 tons at night, principally on bridges and Btations in the Somite Valley. The amount of small arms ammunition fired from the air upon the retreating enemy broke all recent •records. We brought down two night bombers, one being a giant German machine, with five engines and a heavy load of bombs. Our anti-aircraft, guns brought down two others recently.

The Air Ministry reports: Our squadrons on Sunday morning attacked the railway station at Karlsruhe and an aerodrome. Clouds hindered observation, but large bombs were seen to hit the station, causing an explosion. We drove down three enemy machines out of control. One of ours was driven down, without control being lost.

The Admiralty reports: Aircraft heavily bombed enemy minesweepers off Zeebrugge, and also observed a German destroyer, sunk eight miles north-west of Zeebrugge, probably by a British mine.
