"COPPER TRAIL" CONTEST.
* • AUCKLAND LEAD OF 67 MILES, i • The returns in connection with the "cop- ' per trail " competition between Auckland 1 and Wellington in aid of the Red Cross Funds show that, during tho week ending ' Saturday night, Auckland received tho ' sum of £14,700, making the total cash . received since the contest commenced on > June 4, £21,960. This takes tho Auckland i trail 100 miles, to To Awamutu station, i Tho Wellington trail has now reached < Paraparaumu, 33 miles from Wellington. (The featuro of the week, as far as AuckI land is concerned, has been the substantial receipts from several provincial centres, notably Waihi, Tauranga, To Puke, Whakatano and Otorohanga. In addition, last week's receipts- augmented by the Rose Day takings. The organisation of the province fs being continued by the honorary organiser, Mr. C. F. Bickford, and increased returns from all centres aro expected. The effort both in the city and nrovincial centres wi)l be continued until " Our Day," October 18.
