General Sir Douglas Haig reports: We carried out a successful operation this morning between Villers Bretonneux and the Somme. We captured the village of Hamel, and advanced our line an average depth of 2000 yds.
Hostile artillery is active in the sector of Robercq and St. Jans Cappel, two miles north-west of Bailleul.
An American communique states: Intense reciprocal artillery tiring is in progress north-west of Chateau Thierry. We repulsed three raids in the Vosges.
