AUCKLAND ORPHANS' CLUB.

The fortniehtly meeting of the Auckland Orphans' Club on Saturday evening was exceptionally well attended, and the evening was thoroughly successful. Some of the most popular male singers in Auckland are to be found figuring on the programme, and the musical entertainment at most of the gatherings is a distinct feature. On Saturday evening eight new members were elected, making a total of over 70 new members elected for the present season, which commenced only recently. Mr. T. U. Wells presided, and among the guests were Lieutenant-Colonel Jennings, ex-president of the Christchurch Savage Club, and a member of one of the Auckland medical boards, and Mr. E. Harvey, president of the To A rob a Orphans' Club. The visitors were accorded a very cordial welcome by the chairman, and responded suitably. Songs were given by Messrs. H. ITarvev, Ernest Drake, T-. Erhlin, A. (i. Foster,' and E. Fort. Mr. V. Coney played two 'cello solos, and Mr. M. Lewis entertained the company with humorous items. A quartette party — Messrs. Asbury, Lewis, Bellow, and Binnington—sang two pieces, and the orchestra plaved several enjoyable overtures. The accompaniments were played by Messrs. G. Sliorland and H. Piper.
