POLICE COURT NEWS.
UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES. A charge of having been unlawfully on the premises of the Thames Hotel on Saturday morning was preferred against William Keen, before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Police Court on Saturday, Senior-Sergeant McXamara said accused was discovered in the Thames ■ Hotel at an early hour in the morning. Questioned bv the magistrate, accused said he had been in town for the races, but could not account for his actions on the previous mcht- Ho was remanded till Monday to enable him to recover his faculties. TAKEN FROM A BOY. Rubins Wm. Pellev (Mr. Prendegast) was charged with the theft of sixpence from a boy. It was shown in evidence that accused was mentally sub-normal and peculiar, and was a butt among some of the boys. It was suggested that the taking of the sixpence from the boy in question, who admitted having caJbd out names to accused, was intended to be in the nature of a punishment. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, the magistrate warning the boy to refrain from calling accused nai.ies in future. YOUTHS DEALT WITH. A lad, aged 14, employed as a message boy by a city firm, admitted having misappropriated two cheques which he had been sent to deliver. The probation officer said ho understood a friend of the lad's parents was willing to take the boy on his farm, and the lad was formal!v committed to Weraroa Training Farm on the understanding that he was to bo licensed out to the farmer mentioned. A lad who was not under proper control was committed to the Weraroa Training Farm.
