THE SHOOTING SEASON.
GOOD SPORT BEING OBTAINED
Rkcent reports from country districts confirm the earlier statements that good pheasant shooting was obtainable in most localities North and South of Auckland. In this respect a great improvement is noticeable in Waikato and King Country, in which districts for a number of seasons birds were extremely scarce. Among the good bags reported to have been obtained in Waikato is that of a well-known Auckland sportsman, who, in the Raglan district, in three days, secured eight brace of pheasants and 40 quail. Mr. S. Stuart, secretary of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, stated yesterday that reports received from secretaries of country societies were extremely favourable, the fine weather that had prevailed since the opening of the season contributing greatly to success with the guns. Good sport was being obtained in the Hauraki Plains, both in respect to pheasants and ducks, while the reports for Waikato and King Country were highly gratifying, in view of the efforts made by the society'to exterminate pests and stock the districts with pheasants. Hen pheasants were said to be unusually numerous, and this augured well for next season.
