NATIVE SOLDIER ROBBED. " A TOtrxG mail, Arthur H. J&eable {Mr. Singer), was charged in the Police Court ' before Mr. P. V. Fraiier, S.M., yesterday, 1 - with stealing 2s 6d and a ferry ticket from Koroiti Akaitia, a Rarotongan soldier. -Detective McMahon said accused wsS took the money and ticket oat of the sol- ■ " dier's pocket. * When he was searched thafs-g money was found in -his sock. ' " Counsel said accused's state of health was such that liqUor so affected him thai ~ _ he did not know-'what he was doing. * Accused was fined £5. A carter named Frederick J. Brett was charged with stealing £3, the property of £. , one Jamieson. Evidence was given .to the I effect that Jamieson dropped £3 hear the weighbridge on the wharf and another carter _ named Ellis picked it up. Brett saw him do so and said he had - just S dropped it.' Ellis gave it to him. Accused :*- said he kept the money ted was 'waiting M for an advertisement to appear.- He had ■ ' earned £25 in three weeks, and had'no need ;to steal money. Accused, who haS ■ - previously been convicted for theft, was '' fined :£5 and ordered •to - refund the £3, ' - the magistrate remarking that it was an, ' act of impulse. • isTiS? David J.
