POLICE COURT NEWS.
CHARGE DISMISSED AS TRIVIAL. A CARTER, Alfred J. Farley, was charged in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. E. D. Moseley, S.M., with assaulting Henry Conway. The evidence showed that both men were carters. Farley took exception to Conway moving the former's horses on the wharf, and caught hold of him, with the result that Conway fell and cut his face. The charge was dismissed as trivial, defendant being ordered to pay 9s costs. Edward Fowler, (Mr. Singer) pleaded guilty to being drunk while in charge of a motor-car, procuring liquor while prohibited, and* disregarding a traffic constable's warning. A total fine of 15s, with 27s costs, was imposed. A first offender for drunkenness was dealt with. For allowing his horse to wander in the street, Percy Eaton was fined 10s, with 7s costs, and a similar penaJ.y was imposed upon James A. Lockie for having is motor-car inadequately lighted. William Cowperthwaite was fined 10s and 31s costs for driving across a level crossing when a train was approaching. On charges of stealing two postal notes and forging two receipts, George T. Rumble was remanded for a week. Bail in one surety of £50 was'allowed. For failing to attend drill, Thomas D. Gray and Thomas W. Purvey were each fined 10s, with 7s costs, and for failing to register under the Defence Act, James Reed was fined ss, with 7s costs.
