DOMINION WAR LOAN.
MONEY AS WELL AS MEN.
PROGRESS OF SUBSCRIPTION.
[by TELEGRAPH.— association.l DDNEDIN. Thursday. Interviewed to-day regarding tHe war loan, Sir Joseph Ward said that in maintaining the Dominion's share in the war, money is just as important, and in some respects more important, than men, though the sacrifice made by tho men is incomparably greater than any inconvenience experienced by those who have to provide the money.
" During the raising of the last loans," said Sir Joseph Ward, " I did'not give out the amounts subscribed from time to time. I do not think it is a good thing to do, except in a general way. Up to the present, even with the Easter holidays intervening, there is a reasonable response being made, but it is during the last week of the loan that the bulk 01 the money usually comes in. I am hopeful that the experience of the past will be repeated upon this occasion, and that we may be able to avoid taking tho drastic course of putting compulsion into operation, though if it should bo necessary it must be done."
