OTIRA TUNNEL STRIKE.

NO SETTLEMENT REACHED. [lIT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION,] CHEISTCHURCH, Friday. An Otira newspaper correspondent telegraphs to-night that there are no important developments in connection with the tunnel strike to-day. In reply to a telegram, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, said the Minister for Public Works was away in the North Auckland district, which is probably causing delay in a settlement of the dispute. The union held a meeting this afternoon, and urged the men to stand together and win, rather than leave the fight to a few. Pressure is being brought to bear on several Ministers by the business people of Otira to hasten a settlement.
