Replying to Lord Salisbury's censure of the Government's Irish policy, Lord Curzon stated in the House of Lords that the military had been given full powers in disturbed areas to suppress disorder and enforce the law. This had already produced good results. The situation was not yet normal and the military remained while their services were required.
