DANGEROUS POSTAL PACKET.

FINE IMPOSED ON DRUGGISTS. [« TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. A ciurgb was made against Messrs. Sharland and Company, wholesale druggists, under Section 83 of the Post and Telegraph Act, on a charge of having caused to be posted a dangerous packet, containing ljoz of bromine. The packet was handed in at Te Aro Post Office on February 2, and shortly after it exploded, the fumes partially asphyxiating the postal clerk, and affecting others in the building. Mr. Riddcll, S.M., took into consideration that there had been no such mishap for 30 years in the defendant's business, and that the firm concluded sufficient care had been taken in packing. A fine of 40s and costs was imposed.
