DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT.

KAWHIA SOLDIER DECORATED. Information has been received that Sergeant Charles Reginald Yells, son of the late Mr. Alfred Yells, of Kawh-'a. has been awarded the D.C.M, for gallantry and devotion to duty during his first fight, which took place at Arabia on October 3, 1917. Sergeant C. R. Yeils enlisted with the Australian 9th Light Horse Regiment at the outbreak of war but was transferred to the Imperial School of Instruction, Egypt. Hi? only brother, Alfred C. Yells, who enlisted at the age of 17, and was mentioned in despatches from Gallipoli, was killed 'in action in France just after attaining his twentieth birthday.
