AUCKLAND LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Auckland Land Board was held yesterday, the commissioner, Mr. | H. M. Skeet, presiding. A great deal of business was dealt with, no less than 151 items appearing on the order paper. Thirty-five applications for transfers were considered, the majority being either approved or recommended to the Minister for approval. Ten applications for the purchase of the fee simple of holdings were approved. Matters in regard to discharged soldiers' settlement occupied a great deal of the sitting, a total of 44 items being dealt with. Several applications for assistance to purchase land under Clause 3 of the amendment made last session to the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, were received. As the regulations in connection with this legislation have not yet been framed, only preliminary consideration could be given to them, but the board was sympathetic in regard to the applications. Various timber licenses were renewed, and the remission of one year's rent was granted to three settlers on the Reynold's Settlement.
