OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

HOUSE AT EPSOM BURNED.

DESTROYED WITH CONTENTS. A five-roomed house in Pencarrow Avenue, Epsom, was, with its contents, totally destroyed by fire shortly after three o'clock yesterday morning. There were no persons in the house at the time, the tenant, Mrs. J. Williams, hav-; ing left for Whangarei the previous evening. The Parnen, Mount Eden, and Remuera brigades turned out, but owing to the delay in receiving the alarm, which resulted from the house being unoccupied, no portion of the contents was saved. The building, which was owned by the Tonka Estate, was insured with the Phcenix Office for £290. The cause of the fire is unknown. WAIUKU DWELLING' DESTROYED. NONE OF THE CONTENTS SAVED. A five-roomed house at Waiuku, owned by Mr. A. M. Barriball, and occupied by Mr. H. Keane, was totally destroyed by fire at about half-past eleven o'clock on Monday night. The occupants escaped in their night attire and nothing was saved., INCIPIENT FIRE IN THE CITY. SUPPRESSED WITHOUT DAMAGE. A slight outbreak of fire occurred in a dressmakers' rooms on the third floor of Palmerston Buildings at eleven o'clock last evening. The fire," which was caused by an electric iron being left alight on an ironing cloth, was extinguished by the City Firo Brigade before any damage was done. THE LUMSDEN OUTBREAK. LOSS EXCEEDS INSURANCE. [BT telegraph.— association.] INVERCARGILL. Tuesday. Tho total insurances on the buildings destroyed in the fire at Lumsden yesterday, amounted to £1225. The loss is considerably in excess of that amount. Details of the estimated values of property destroyed and of the insurances are:—Stable and trapshed, valued at £300, insurance £150 in the Guardian Office; shop and billiardroom, valued at £300, contents valued at £650, insurances £60 in the Guardian Office; drapery shop, valued at £400, contents valued at £1000, insurances, 6hop £250 in the Guardian Office, contents £500 in the State office; Marshall's butchery, £200 in tho New Zealand Office on the building, and £65 on the contents and fittings.
