FIRE NEAR INVERCARGILL.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. DESTRUCTION OF POST OFFICE. [by telegraph.— association.] INVERCARGILL. Monday. A fire broke out at a-quarter past one this morning in the stables situated at the rear of the Elbow Hot-el, Lumsden. The flames spread rapidly, and destroyed the post office, Griffiths's draper's shop, and Marshall's butchery. Sparks lodged on the railway station several times, but the building escaped. The Elbow Hotel was merely scorched. OUTBREAK AT MACKAYTOWN. SHOP AND STOCK DESTROYER. [by TELEGRAPH. —OWN correspondent.] PAEROA, Monday. Fire destroyed a shop at Mackaytown owned by the Ohinemuri Light and Power Company, and occupied by Mr. J. Shearer. The outbreak occurred at four o'clock this morning. None of the contents of. the building was saved. The stock was insured in the Victoria Office for £250, but Mr. Shearer estimates his loss over the insurance at £150. The building was also insured, but in what office isi not ascertainable.
