ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.

GOOD PROSPECTS FOR SUCCESS. Tins anniversary regatta, which will be held on Monday, January 28, promises to be most interesting and successful. ■ The yachting enthusiasts who are controlling the regatta have spared no effort to ensure success, and the business community has responded liberally to the appeal for funds, The amount raised from the public has been liberally augmented by yachtsmen themselves, and the prizes are substantial. An attractive programme has been arranged, and' should result in largo entries facing the starter. The trading races, which in the past hfwft aroused great interest and' keen competition) are given a place on the programme. The first-class yacht events should recall to memory the magnificent sights of white wings on the Waitemata before the war, for tho committee is assured of a good entry.' The mullet-boat classos should excite keen interest, as this type of boat is now very popular. In the second-class yacht events a record entry is expected. In addition to the first prizes, a champion flag is presented in these events. Motorlaunches are well catered for, and a champion flag also accompanies tho first prizes in these events. There will be two races for model yachts. These events will . be decided in St. Mary's Bay, near .Point Erin Park. There is also an auxiliary race, the boats to, be propelled by their engines as well as by sails. In all motorboat races, handicaps will be given at tho start. The limit boat will start first, the others following according to their handicaps. This should popularise thoso events with spectators, for, as the first boat i pist tho flag will be tho winner, the result will be clear to all. Should the rogotta come up to the committee's estimate, that large section" of the public interested in aquatics should have their tastes well catered for. . • v •*., ___________ N -
