TRIENNIAL ELECTIONS. PROVINCIAL RESULTS. A triennial election for seats upon county councils throughout the Dominion was held yesterday. Ratepayers in the Auckland Province displayed considerable interest in the various contests, in many instances the issue resulting in close polling. Results to hand last night were as follows :— , Waitemata County.—Mairetahi Riding : H. Aitkenhead, 98; J. McLeod, 95. Wainui Riding: A. J. Hatfied, 134: E. J. Hobbs, 101. Kaukapakapa Riding: P. Dye, 124 W. Stevens, 83. Waitakere Riding: A. R. Sintort, 129; A. Glasgow, 108. Waipareira Riding: W. Oliphant, 232; F. G. Piatt, 133. Waikumete Riding: P. Theet, 222; H. B. La Trobe, 163. Birkenhead Riding: J. Broady, 105; H Day, 99. Kumeu Riding: J. W. Hanison, 195; V. F. Kerr-Taylor, 82. Messrs. A. M. Laing (Titirangi), T. Foley (Pukeatila), and W. H. Hart ,(fakapmia) Ridings, were returned unopposed. ' Manukau County.Mangere ins: S. W. House, 242 H. R. McKenzie, 236. Messrs. A. Muir, jun., Papakura, F. M. Waters, Papatoetoe. F. H. Drury Riding: W. H. Thomas, 178; J. Flanagan, 108—one return to come. 'Mauku Riding; J. Henry, 253; J. S. Montgomerie, 184—one return to come. Mercer Riding: C. A. HOle, 107; G. H. iitubbs. 73. Waiuku Riding: R. T. Reid, 158 C. Hodgkinson, 97; R. Higginson, 93. Messrs. T. J. Lockwood, Hunua, H. Wilcox, Pukekohe East, T, W. Woods, Pukekohe West, and W. C. Motion, Waipipi ridings, were returned unopposed. Raglan County Akau Riding: C. C. Otway. 71; T. Parker, 51. Onewhero Riding: S. H. , Crawford, 165; C. E. Walter, 115. P'ukemiro Riding: W. C. Broughton, 56 5 J. Mackinnon, 41; Pirongia Riding: W. J Marx, 53; H. Haddock, 49. Whaihgaroa Riding: S. J. Rawlinson, 72; C. W. Ralfe, 42; A. Peart, 42. Messrs. W. Seavill, C. Swann, C. Johnstone, John R, Lowry, G. H. Morrison, and A. Coboume have been returned unopposed for the ridings of Waingaro, Karioi, Karamu, Whangape, Pukekawa, and Port Waikato respectively. Two surprises were developed in the contest for seats on the Waitomo County Council. Mr. A. Schole3 ( who had occupied the position of chairman for many years, was defeated for the Hangatiki riding by Mr. Walter Lee. Mr. Edward Tolme also defeated ah old member, Mr. P. Smyth, for the Aria riding. Messrs. J. Wall, Paemako, R. Were, Maeroa, and Captain G. Berry, Te Kuiti ridings were returned unopposed. Otamatea County.—Wairau Riding: : A. H. Curtis 72; N. Pinloyson, 65. , Ruawai Riding: E. K. Finlayßon, 87 W. T. Hunt, 64. Mareretu Riding: G. W. Heslop, 39; T. Dodds. Whakapirau Riding: T, Meyers, 48; J. Trewin, 38. Tokatoka Riding: J. Finlayson, 55; T. F. Downs, 39. Matakohe Riding: R. Coates, 131; R. E. Smith, 78; J. Morris, 76. Mr. G. K. Cliff was returned unopposed for the Paparoa Riding, and Mr. W. J. Littin for tho Kaiwaka Riding. Thames County.—Waiotahi Riding T. W. Newman, 82; R. A. Law 1 ; 51. Kauaeranga Riding: A, J. Bateman, 74; J. Caseley, 38. Puriri Riding: R. Cox, 81; W. Morecrait, 34. Piako Riding: W. Pieters, 69; W. Piako County Council.—The two riding contests resulted as follows:—Waihou Riding: James B. Thomas, chairman, 172; Ernest Wagstaff, "3. Manawaru Riding: James Fitzgerald, 187; William Lockyer, 70. . Ohinemuri County Council: The following were elected; —Messrs. A. D. McGuire (Karangahake Riding), S. H. Morgan (Waikino), F. M. Strange (Waitoa), James Johnson (Mangaiti), A. R. Robinson (Kaimanawa), G. H. Keeling (Paeroa), P. Grace (Waitekauri), S. LaughUn (Netherton). and E. R. Whitechurch (Patetonga). Eotorua County Council: North Riding —Messrs. T- B. Smythe, 77 votes; C. Turner, 57; S. Dixon, 51; J. T. Tanner, 33. Two returns still to come cannot affect the result. South Riding: Messrs. H M Marton, 128; H. Tai Mitchell, 86; J. M*. Ford, 83; W. J. Parsons, 75; C. A Clarke, 73; W. Steel, 66. The first three in each riding have been elected. Official recounts have to be held in each instance. VETERAN MEMBER DEFEATED.
