IMPERIAL WOOL PURCHASE.
SEASON'S FIRST VALUATIONS.. The first valuations of wool for the season were made yesterday, when about 1000 bales were dealt" with. It is anticipated that about 4000 bales will be valued this week, and that a like quantity will be dealt with each week till about the end of March, when the busy season ends. The wool catalogued yesterday was fudy equal to last,, season's clip in quality some grades showing a slight improvement. The conditions of valuation were • the same as were in operation last season ' with minor additions for the purpose of facilitating the work of the valuers, and the. results gave general satisfaction. Halfbred wool realised up to 19|d; fine crossbred up • to 18d, and pieces up to 14d, these grades being practically the only classes of wool dealt with yesterday. The prices realised for the various grades last season were:—Superior Merino combings ' 18id to 22£ d, medium to good 15jd to 17|d, inferior 13id to 14fd • superior halfbred 18Jd to 212 d, medium 15jd to 18jd, inferior 14d to 15id; superior cross--1 bred 16jd to 183 d. medium 14d to 17d, ' inferior 12d to 14d ; Lincoln and Leices- • ter, 13^d to 16|d; lambs, good 17d to I 20d, medium 14d to 16|d.
