LADIES' REP. MATCHES'. AUCKLAND TEAMS DEFEATED. The ladies' representative hockey matches at Reniuera on Saturday were witnessed by ' a fair gathering of spectators. The Auck' land A team met, and were defeated by, the Poverty Bay representatives by 2 goals to 1. The play was very fast and even and provided an excellent exhibition, of the game. The Wailcato team showed a msjeked superiority over the local B team, ultimately defeating thorn by 7 goals to 1. POVERTY BAY V. AUCKLAND A. The play started off even, Auckland attacking at first, but the visitors retaliated almost immediately. From a forward move-1 ment, the .local players forced a corner; Misses Protheroe and Hamblm secured and made several good attempts but the ball was finally clearod. Poverty Bay got away, but without success, the Auckland players securing the ball, and after a good run Miss Cleary put the ball in the net. Prom the restart the Poverty Bay forwards earned the ball to their opponent's circle, Miss Kay scoring the equalising goal after a short tussle. Half-time blew almost immediately. Dunns the second half th* visitors had the advantago of the play. Tho local defence was kent busy and Auckland was lucky on several"occasions. Shortly before time was called Miss M. Fnirlie put in a splendid shot thus giving the visitors the victory. The final scores were'. Poverty Bay 2 Auckland A 1 WAIEATO V. AUCKLAND B. The Auckland Waikato match was not very interesting'. The local tesm scored first, but the visitors soon retaliated, and by htfif time had added four goals. During the second half three more goals were scored. For the visitors, Mis?
