DROWNED IN HARBOUR
FALL FROM KING'S WHARF, SINGLE MAN LOSES HIS LIFE. A drowning accident occurred off King's Wharf at 7 p.m. on Saturday, when a single man, Mr. David Stafford) aged 28, lost his life. Nobody actually saw tho accident, but a man standing farther down the wharf, whose attention was attracted by a thud, saw the deceased roll off a stringer into the water. The man ran up the wharf to give tho alarm, but, unfortunately, away from where the harbour officials and police were awaiting the arrival of a steamer, and it was some time before he found a policeman. As soon as possible a boat was procured, and a search was made, Air. Stafford being found floating about 100 yards from the wharf. Dr. (Joldicutt was .summoned, and artificial respiration tried for some time, but without success. The body was taken to the morgue. Deceased was employed by Messrs. Pullan, Armitage and Co., as a coachman, and lived at Wellcsley Street East. An inquest will be held at 9.30 this morning.
