. A CANTERBURY PIONEER. j§| Mr. Georee Tayler,- one of Canterbury's pioneers, who came out in the first four ships, died at Christchurch the other day, • at the age of 84. He came to New Zealand with his uncles, the Shriraptou' c brothers, and wa3 with them when they established the Lyttelton Times in 8. tent :• at Lyttelton. He returned to Englandxia 1860 to arrange for J supplies from manufacturers, and on returning to the colony , entered into business at Lyttelton as a? merchant. Mr. Tayler subsequently removed his business to Christchurch, where ff he continued until his retirement five or r six years ago. Mrs. Tayler, who survives her husband, landed from the fifth vessel® to cast anchor in Lyttelton. *■' Jiff
