AUCKLAND SUBURBAN TRAINS.
Sir,—l have waited to see if anyone would challenge tho Minister for Railways' reply to Mr. S. Dixon's appeal_ for the. transposing of the Saturday night pleasure train into a Friday night business train- One is staggered with the amount of brainy consideration shown to those whom the Rainlway Department have enticed out of the city into the suburbs, induced them to invest their hard earnings, and then left them to get along as best they can. It would also bring to public notice the injustice shown to the suburbs south of Papatoetoe, namely, Wiri, Manurewa, Alfristen, Brookby, Weymouth, Takanini, Papakura, Drury, Hunua, Karaka, Clevedon, and surronndine districts. There are between 40 and 50 workers travelling daily who have a«ked that the 5.17 p.m. daily train run through to Papakura instead of the 5.12. As it is at present, the 5.17 train reaches Papatoetoe at 5.41 p.m., and waits there until 6.31 p.m., and returns to Penrose for the night. Now can any reasonable person say why the 5-17 cannot tako them home instead of keeping them waiting in a dismal cold station for 40 minutes, and making a daily toil of 13 hours or more? There is no necessitv for the 5.42 train to Papakura if the 5.17 will run through to the suburban terminus. Most of us leave home soon after 6 a.m., and, under the present conditions, it is 8.30 t>.m. before the household duties are finished. We are not findincr fault so much with the reducine of trains as with the lack of consideration shown in cutting out absolutely necessary trains, and causing such inconvenience. H. Boot, Manurewa.
