NEWMARKET BOROUGH.
A meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor, Mr. C. Leek, and Messrs. A. Seccombe, W. G. Sawbridge, P. O'Meara, A. Eagleton, H. S. Cooper, and P. Boone. The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board wrote notifying the council that the borough's contribution for the 12 months ending March 31, 1918, had been assessed at £675 18s 2d.
A resolution protesting against the proposed sale of the State coal mines by the Government, and urging the purchase of a mine in the Waikato district, was received from the Waihi Borough Council. On the motion of the Mayor the resolution was endorsed.
