STUDENT APPRENTICES.
A number of assistants arc at present receiving manual training at the Auckland Technical School, with the intention of later becoming qualified teachers. A scheme for properly completing their training, whereby tbey hall, after having finished the course at the Technical School, bo employed as third-year apprentices by Auckland builders .was mentioned at the Arbitration Court yesterday. Mr. Justice Stringer said the proposal was a novel one, but as it was not embodied either in- the union's proposals or the employers' counter-proposals, the Court could not deal with it. He suggested that a conference between the union and the employers should be held to see if a satisfactory arrangement could- be evolved -If an agreement were reached definite proposals could be submitted to the Court which would only be too ready to help in anything that tended in .the direction of efficiency.
