Mayoralty of the united ?. boroughs of 7 Hamilton : and Frankton has been accepted by Mr. J. W. Ellis. Ib is unlikely that there will bo any other candidate/, . .'- A request that he should allow himself to.be nominated for the first Mayor of the united borough was made to Mr. Ellis by a deputation, comprising (the present Mayor of Hamilton, Mr. J. R. Fow, and members of tho Hamilton '" and Frankton Conncils. ;,;In his . reply. Mr. Ellis said , that one of the deciding factors K was 5 the ■ opinion voiced by members;"of; the Frankton Council, which ho found ; was , supported 1 outside, that if he was elected to the position it would renew the ;'••■ feeling which';' existed ' that .Frankton; would not receive fair treatment in the united borough. He had always strongly '; opposed such an opinion, but in accepting nomination lie would make it plain; that he was not standing to represent any particular : part of the united borough. If returned ho would ■ see that all parts received fair treatment. -~
