BELGIAN PORTS TRANSFORMED INTO NAVAL BASES.
AUXILIARY FLEETS WITHIN TWO HOURS OF ENGLAND. ELABORATE ARTILLERY AND TRENCH DEFENCES OF COAST. Australian and NZ Cable. (Received 7.30 p.m.) LONDON', Oct. 27 London newspapers surest the necessity of extending the use of mines in order to close the egress from Zeebrugge and (Mend. Zeebrugge is now the station of many torped vboats. destroyers, trawlers, and a number of submarines, together with wooden dummies intended to mislead enemy airmen bombarding the port. The coist is defended by interminable rows of llin naval guns juried in the dunes. Behind the dunes are heavy howitzers in protected positions. The whole of the sandy coast is honeycombed with trenches, flanked by subterranean catacombs, constructed of concrete and bomb proof. German torpedo-boats and other naval craft arc constantly moving between Ostend and Zeebrugge. It is understood the Germans have recently been turning out exceptionally fast and wellarmed destroyers which have been brought to Belgian ports. Ostend is only two hours' steaming from the South Foreland.
