MINING NEWS.

WAIHI EXTENDED.

The shaft in the Waihi Extended mine, Waihi, has now been sunk to 162 ft below No. 6 level. A set of bearers has been put in and ladders and airpipes carried to the bottom. Tho shaft is still passing through leaders of mineralised quartz, and tho country rock is a hard dacite of favourable appearance. Sinking is being carried on without any trouble from water, and the ventilation is proving satisfactory. GOLDEN BELT. The rise over the back of the stopes in No. 1 level, Golden Belt mine, Nevesville, is now up a distance of 23ft. The manager reports that the footwall crosscut at this level is now in 63ft. Trio country rock is favourable, and there is a fair amount of water coming from the face. The stopes at tho intermediate level are looking well. In a drive north from the stope, gold can be seen in the stone. WAIOTAHI. The manager of the Waiotahi mine, Thames, reports that the face of the surface drive has been advanced along the lino of the old stopes for a distance of 20ft. Little quartz is now showing in the face, but the drive is being continued to ascertain if any quartz stringers strike off into the walls of the old stopes. TAIRUA BROKEN HILLS. The whole length of the ground section of the tor-face at the Tairua Broken Hills mine, Pukutui, is now clear and in good order, with the exception of the tunnel, which should be completed in a few days. The work of erecting trestle work on tho spans over gullies is being pushed on as speedily as possible.
