POSTPONEMENT OF TRIAL.

HAMILTON, Tuesday. At the opening of the Supremo Court criminal sessions to-day Mr. Justice Cooper referring in his charge to the grand jury to the charge of murder against the Rarotongan, Toeto Kainuku, in connection with the tragedy at Tiroa, near Mangapeehi, on July 28 last, said the defence probably would be a plea of insanity. It, however, was no part of the duty of the grand jury to consider that. A true bill was returned. Later in the proceedings, Dr. Robert Martin Beattie, medical superintendent of the Avondale Mental Hospital, deposed that accused was in that institution suffering from an attack of mania, dangerously homicidal, and was not fit to travel at present, either in his own or the public interests. Travelling had a bad effect, and accused was worse now than ho was three weeks ago. The acuto mania would subside after a few weeks, but it would be dangerous to bring him out in his present condition. . Tho trial was therefore postponed,
