GREATER AUCKLAND.
ONE-TREE HILL'S POSITION.
BOARD MEMBERS' VIEWS.
AN ADVERSE ATTITUDE.
That the Greater Auckland movement should not apply to One-tree Hill Jot some years was the general opinion of members of the One-tree Hill Road Board as expressed last night. The chairman, Mr. R. B. McDuff, said he had interviewed tho Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, in regard to the matter. The latter had seemed to be particularly anxious that tho One-tree Hill district should join the city. Mr. H. Dobbie said ho considered the idea premature. It would be ridiculous to join when Newmarket had not done so. Mr. T. H. Rowe declared that practically eight out of every twelve ratepayers in Grey Lynn considered that they were not now as well treated as in the past, and wished that they had not amalgamated. The chairman remarked that One-treo Hill might join the city in about 15 years. Mr. Rowe observed that if a suburban borough 'were formed, including Mount Roskill, Newmarket, and Ellerslie, they would have a common interest. It seemed to him that there was going to be concentration on the needs of the city, while the rural districts would havo to wait. He considered that One-tree Hill would be a valuable asset' on which to raise money. Mr. Dobbie: If tho city would set an example in roadmaking and administration it might be an inducement to local , bodies. The chairman said he had told the Mayor that the worst part of Manukau Road and tho Great South Road was under the jurisdiction of the city. Mr. H. B. Morton said that amalgamation with the city would be inevitable, but at present it was premature. Bylaws which were right and proper in the city would be out of placo) in rural districts.
Tho discussion then dropped.
