WATER FOR EPSOM.
SOURCE OF THE SUPPLY.
NO CHANGE TO BE MADE.
RESULT OF REFERENDUM.
A rßorosAL to revert to the Manukau Water Board's own supply at Onehunga Springs was negatived by a referendum of ratepayers held in the lipsom and Onetree Hill districts l?st week. The referendum was held as the result of an expressed desire on behalf of a section of the residents to return to the old supply, on the ground of economy. Tho change wis made two years ago, when, as an outcome of an epidemic of typhoid fever at Epsom, the board ceased to use its own supply and purchased its water from the City Council.
At last evening's meeting of the board the chairman, Mr. F. H. Wood, reported thai 1680 ratepayers were qualified to vote, but only 383 exercised their priviOf the votes recorded, 225 were in favour of continuing the present arrangement, and 160 were in favour of reverting to the old supply. The majority against the proposal wag 63. The chairman expressed satisfaction at the result of the vote, and on his motion it was decided that no change be made.
