BRITISH PATROL ENTERS MARTINPUICH. . VILLAGE AT THE MERCY OF THE BRITISH. Australian and N.Z. Cable. (Received 7 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Mail writes: "There has been three days' desperate fighting in the northern part of Guillemont. The enemy is defending the position with the courage of despair, but our men are attacking with invincible obstinacy, and have gained ground. A. British patrol made its way into Martinpuich village, which is at our mercy."
