DOMAIN WINTER GARDEN.
CONTRACT PROVISIONALLY LET. A tender for the erection of the winter garden in the Domain, at £3268, was provisionally accepted last night by the City Council. The estimate for the work, furnished by the architect Messrs. Hoggard and Prouse, and .W. H. Gummer, was £3100.' The tenders -received totalled nine, and were as follows:—Fred. Wilton, £3268; W. E. Hutchison. £3298; J. H. Colbourne, £3298; C. F. Hamon and Sons, £3355; Johns and Son, £3375; Facer and Co., £3450: J. T. Julian and Sons, £3497; G. H. Edwards. £5888; Pattison and Brooks, £3997.. The . tender of Fred. Wilson was accepted, subject to the approval of the • architects, the next two lowest to he retained.
Mr. G. Elliot, formerly, chairman of tho Exhibition executive, who it as present, stated that though £3000 had been allocated for the winter garden the total in hand was £3400. . If a tender for £3268 were accepted it would cut down the amount available for expenditure on the ground.
The Mayor suggested that he should consult Mr. Elliot on the following day. To this Mr. Elliot agreed.
