NAVY LEAGUE APPEAL.

WORK OF THE LADIES. APPRECIATIVE OFFICIAL. Appreciative reference regarding the activities of the Ladies' Emergency Committee of the . Auckland branch of the Navv League is contained in a letter received by the president, Captain Thomas, from the general secretary of the league in London. The general secretary writes as follows: am very glad indeed to receive the notes yon so kindly send me of the work that is being done by the Women's Naval Relief Fund, and I shall give as much space as I possibly can to this account of what your ladies are doing in the August issue of our journalIt is most gratifying to know that the ladies of Auckland have come to the assistance of the league with so much energy and enthusiasm, and, indeed, what you have done is characteristic of the "attitude of ladies in most parts of the Empire." Regarding the general work of the league in Auckland, Mr. Hannon says — " I received with very much pleasure your cheerful and encouraging letter of May 12 last, in which you tell me that the Auckland branch of the Navy League has taken ' a new lease of life. We had striking evi- j dence of this vitality in the magnificent donation of £5000, which we received through the High Commissioner on Friday, and which I have duly acknowledged to you in another letter. A supply of badges is being sent you by this mail, and will, I hope, meet the requirements of your members. I regret very much that for a long time little or no information has been sent us relating to the Auckland branch, and it will give us very great pleasure to insert notices from time to time in The Navy if news of any activity reach us."
